Life changed when I closed the car door and started the long drive up I 95. This moment had been a long time in the making: 12 years of school, extracurricular activities, SAT’s, essays, applications, college visits. And now the time had come, the day I both looked forward to and dreaded.
My oldest had just started college. I remember, of course, the day she was born and the love and joy I felt. The time when I could hold her in my arms and on my lap passed much too quickly. She was eager to be on her own at school, and it was time.
But my family and life changed that day. Now instead of 4 at home we had only 3. My movie watching buddy wasn’t around. No more dance recitals or diving meets. Since she was about 6 hours away, we didn’t see her very often. And when we went to visit grandparents, she wasn’t with us. Since that day, we’ve only all been together for a few short days over the holidays. (Except we were all together during the quarantine – the best part of the quarantine.)
Is your family about to change this fall (or end of summer)? I’m booking July and August sessions now for family portraits before the kids go away to school. I think this is an especially great time to photograph grandparents with grandkids. We can work outside or inside, whichever you are more comfortable with. See my safety precautions for COVID-19.
