Spring!

I love spring! It’s always a joyful time of year, people start coming out of their homes, the air starts to warm. This year I think it’s even more joyful than usual. This spring brings hope of reclaiming a life where we can see one another in person!

Have you ever read “Annie and the Wild Animals” by Jan Brett? This isn’t her most famous book, but it’s my favorite. During the course of this story, the world transitions from winter to spring. And the thing I love best about Jan Brett books is the foreshadowing in the illustrations around the edge of the pages. And so we slowly see the snow beginning to recede and the world beginning to wake up. There is loss in the book, but also a return, even better than before, with new life. This is spring to me, especially this spring.

Spring, Hope, New life
"In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt." Margaret Atwood

One of my favorite things about spring is planting flowers and vegetables in my garden. I love working with the soil that the sun has warmed. And I love the smell of the dirt! I bought some lettuce seeds, and I’m anxious to get them into the ground.

The very best thing about spring for me is that both of my children were born in the spring. Last year, since they were both at home due to Covid, we were able to celebrate their birthdays together for the first time in quite a few years. That was one of the blessings of last year for me.

“Spring adds new life and new joy to all that is.” Jessica Harrelson

Let yourself get swept up in this spring, in new life all around, in the warm sun, in new possibilities.
