People are more likely to do business with you, hire you, feel connected to you if they know what you look like. Put your best face forward and communicate your message effectively by preparing for your headshot portrait session.

First, communicate with your photographer. Let the photographer know what sort of image you want to portray, what message you want to communicate to your potential clients/employers/friends. Be sure to describe your business to your photographer. Your photographer can use lighting and posing to help you communicate. You might want an image on a neutral backdrop, or you might want a prop that says something about you, or you may want your image taken in your environment.

What should you wear? You might want to wear a suit for a serious, professional image, but you might also want to appear less formal. In that case, your dress would be less formal. Dark colors are best, unless you are trying to convey a fun, whimsical, or bold demeanor. Wear clothing that fits well and doesn’t show too much skin. Baggy clothing will make you appear larger than you are.

Most important – relax! Trust your photographer, enjoy your session, and your true personality will shine through!
