My fondest memories as a child are of times spent with my grandparents. When I was with my grandparents I always felt loved, accepted, cherished. The relationship between a child and a grandparent is something special that is very different than any other relationship a child has. I remember learning to sew and garden with my grandmother, building Lincoln Log farms in my grandparents’ living room, learning to love maps, cameras, and life with my grandfather, staying up late playing games with my grandmother, building a shelf with my grandfather. I remember sitting outside on a warm summer evening and catching fireflies when visiting my grandparents.
I had the honor of photographing a grandmother, grandfather and their first grandchild. He (the grandchild) was 18 months old and full of energy! He quickly warmed up to me and my studio. He loved exploring the studio. He was in motion for just about the whole session. I loved observing how his grandparents interacted with him. They didn’t try to force him to stay still, which was perfect. It was so obvious how much Grandma and Grandpa enjoyed being with him – and how free and comfortable he was with them. I’m sure you can see that in these images. I can’t wait to be a grandparent some day!
